I oragincally grow most of the smaller & ornamental gourds at my home and what I do not grow myself I buy from local farmers. I believe that it is important to support my fellow NC growers. It is generally a one year process. After the growing season is over they are collected and dried until the following year. Once they have fully dried they are then scraped, cleaned and then dried again. Now the gourd is ready for painting. After the gourd has been painted it is given a protective clear coating. At this point all the gourds are protected against the elements and may be used indoors or outdoors. All pieces are signed and dated.
