Green Gourd Creations came about by simply doing what I love. For years I had been creating pieces for gifts and donations for one fundraiser or another. And after being asked repeatedly "where do you sell your artwork" and responding... "I don’t", I realized that maybe I should. So, The Green Gourd was born.
All the pieces we carry are hand designed by either my husband, Bill or myself. Bill creates the metal and wood sculptures. He has been carving birds & fish for many years. He started with decoys and then moved on to more detailed pieces. And as for his metal work... well, he is a master welder by trade and an artist at heart. I stopped painting for many years even though, I was subtly encouraged by my mother. She never missed an opportunity to present me with a gift of watercolors, oil paints, pastels and sketch pads. Which I would thoughtlessly set aside. She passed away in 1989 and is truly missed. I am forever grateful to her for loving and believing in me, even when I did not. I picked up the brush again more than 10 years ago and can not imagine ever putting them down again.
We grow many of the gourds ourselves. However, I do have to buy some and I like to keep things local so I buy from a few nearby farmers. You will find more than gourds at my online store. I carry items from painted glassware to life size sculptures. Since all the pieces are hand designed there will be no two pieces exactly alike. I will created a similar design for sets and replacements but sometimes the actual piece will differ from the catalog photo.

We are located in Northeastern North Carolina on a 17 mile long barrier island referred to as the Outer Banks. Some of you may be familiar with the area. The most notable namesakes are Kitty Hawk & Nags Head. However you can find us in the township of Kill Devil Hills. Yes, that’s right, I didn’t make that up. True fact: Kill Devil Hills is the actual home of the first 13 seconds of flight by Orville & Wilbur Wright. There was nowhere to send out the word of their accomplishment here, so they went up to our neighbors to the north in Kitty Hawk and sent out the message. And then like any good grapevine ... the first flight was made in Kitty Hawk, NC.
