Hold And Play An Ocarina
The top side of the Ocarina has three holes on either side
The bottom side of the ocarina has two small holes on either side, and one large air hole
To begin, hold the Ocarina, as shown in this picture. (To enlarge this picture, just click on the icon)
Now on the bottom side, place both thumbs over the two small holes, (Note: it is very important to keep these holes covered at all times. Only in advanced playing should the holes be uncovered)
Next, turn the ocarina towards you. Your thumbs should be on the bottom side, covering the two bottom holes. Now, on the Top side, place three fingers on each side, covering the six open holes.
Now make sure all eight holes are covered, six on Top, and two on Bottom. With all holes covered, take a breath, put the mouth piece to your mouth and gently let out air. Try to keep a steady air flow. W
ith all holes covered, start by getting a sound. Than practice, starting on your right hand, lifting one finger at a time, (starting with your ring finger.) While uncovering holes on your right side, keep the holes on the left side covered. With a little practice, you will soon be on your way to Advanced Playing
