Rainstick, 80 inch
HOW ARE RAINSTICKS MADE?
Long ago in places like the deserts of
Like the Llama, the Cactus we use to create our Rainsticks also comes from the deserts of
The cacus tubes are then cut into desired lengths.
We then drill small holes in a spiral rotation down the entire length of the cactus. the thorns are inserted into the pre-drilled holes. A piece of wood is used to push the thorns into the holes.
We use files, clippers and a sanding machine to trim and smooth any thorns that may be sticking out.
We then glue on an ’endcap’, which is a round piece of cactus used to close one end of the tube. Wood glue is applied to the end of the tube as well as to the endcap.
Now we pour little pebbles into the open end of the Rainstick. The pebbles trickle through the thorns to create the rain-like sound.
After we glue an endcap to the other end of the Rainstick, we use the sanding machine to round the ends. The final step is to seal and shine each Rainstick with a non-toxic coat of polyurethane. Now the Rainstick is ready to be decorated with colorful yarn or painted designs.
