April 1862, during the Civil War, Capt. Andrews led a party of Union saboteurs in Big Shanty, GA where they captured the Confederate army's locomotive the General, Capt. Fuller, the conductor of the General, chased the locomotive first on foot then in a small four-wheeled track car. In Etowah, they found an old engine the Yonah and set out after the General at 60 miles an hour. Near Adairsville, they fired up the engine the Texas and continued to chase the General in reverse dodging cross ties and crossing buring bridges. After being chased nearly 91 miles, Andrews and his men jumped off the General and scurried into the woods. All 22 men were captured. Andrews and 6 others were hung as spies.
