About Versace: Italian Fashion Designer Gianni Versace was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy in the winter of 1946. Before his unprecedented success in the fashion industry, Gianni worked out of his mothers tailoring business where he learned to cut and sew. He eventually dove deeper in the fashion business as a buyer and seller of fabrics. At age 25, he had almost immediate success in the world of fashion with his flamboyant designs. With the new found success of Gianni's designs, he began to build his empire. In 1978, the first Versace boutique was opened in the famed Via della Spiga in Milan. Shortly afterward, Gianni introduced his first label for women.

Now growing to be a worldwide craze, Versace was sought to design costumes and clothing for many famous ballets and operas. In 1997, after 25 years of success and fame, Gianni Versace was tragically found dead, shot to death in front of his mansion in Miami, Florida. Currently, his brother Santo and sister Donnatella head the Versace label. Today, the name Versace is associated with extravagance and individuality throughout the world.
