History and Schedule

In 1998 a bill was passed "to allow the Secretary of the Treasury greater discretion with regard to the placement of the required inscriptions on quarter dollars issued under the 50 State Quarters™ Program."

Approximately every 10 weeks, from 1999 to 2008, there will be a new state quarter to collect. Each quarter’s reverse celebrates one of the 50 states with a design honoring its unique history, traditions, and symbols. The quarters are released in the same order that the states joined the union.
