- Mr. T. & Mr. B. (Stanley Turrentine and Art Blakey ) and his Jazz Messengers featuring Chuck Mangio
Description:
These Stanley Turrentine tracks first appeared on Wally RokerÆs Canyon Record label in 1970 on vinyl. Wally is the genius responsible for bringing together some of L.A.Æs
Greatest jazz musicians for this date, e.g., Paul Humphrey, King Errison, Freddy Robinson, Al Vesco, Victor Feldman, Wilton Felder, Joan Crowler and Monk Higgins. The latter shared the arrangement duties with Art Freeman. These tracks are a rare treat for Turrentine fans, because this was his first musical journey with funky originals to hit pop songs. As expected, he makes it happen to the delight of everyone who listens.
Ranked in the top five of the greatest jazz drummers in the world. Art Blakey employed much of his genius in these tracks. Chuck Mangione, his 25 year old discovery is at his best playing bop oriented trumpet, with and without the mute.
Art, Chuck, Frank Mitchell and Keith Jarrett, ôliveö and unbridledàthatÆs it! They pushed the envelope to the limit on this recording.
